10 Stupid Things – Part 4

Currently I am reading a book called “Ten Stupid Things that Keep Churches from Growing” by Geoff Surratt. Here are some personal thoughts on the third chapter.

The Sunday morning worship service is the number one priority for any church. The music must be the best it can be, the message must be God given and impactful. The flow of the service needs to be planned and smooth.

A church that is sloppy on Sunday morning has made a “stupid” mistake. It doesn’t have to be that way….

It matters if the service to starts on time or not.

It matters.

The tech team needs to be in sync with what is going on.

It matters.

If you don’t have a tech team… you need one.

It matters.

The message must be well planned and ready to go.

It matters what the music sounds like and what the order the music goes in.

It matters…

it matters.

Everything we do must be done to the best of our ability.

Why invite lost people to come to a chruch and see how badly the church can put on a Sunday Morning Service?

Why represent God in actions that do not show your best?

It is great to be at a church (FBC) where excellence is the goal. Everything does not always go as planned, but it does most of the time. We’re not perfect but we are trying to give God our best and impact the lives He sends our way. We are following Him to the best of our ability.

That said, this chapter was challenging… we must continue on the path we are on and work on the service each week. There will always be something to work on, something that can be adjusted, with the goal of making it better.

We represent God each Sunday Morning and that statement is a challenge within itself. Even with that, I hope God is well pleased with our efforts. We do not want to offer up worship that is our second best.
