Friends, Pastors and Scholars – a Question.

Friends, Pastors, and Scholars. I need your help.

Currently I’m studying for a message for next spring from Mark 8:11-13. In this passage Jesus says “no sign will be given to this generation”. Now we know that every miracle He performed was a sign that He was the Messiah. Where He grew up, where He was born and how He was born were signs as well. More importantly His death burial and resurrection is a sign He is who He says He is.

That said… what does He mean here in Mark 8:12? “No sign will be given” when so many have been given.

This is not a trick… currently I do not have the answer but am looking for it.

So what do you think?

  1. Matthew 16: 4 says that a wicked and adulterous generation looks for a sign, but none will be given it except the sign of Jonah. I don’t believe that the Pharisees were asking Jesus for a sign for the right reasons so he denied them the sign they were asking for. Jesus is saying that a sign will not be given to a generation who tempts the Lord but I do believe that he will give to a generation who is seeking the Lord. In verse 13 “he left them “Jesus did not want to be in the presence of corruption that did not have a hope of being corrected so he left them.
Hope this helps as you know I’m nowhere near a Scholar just a friend giving his thoughts.
