Blog Update

The post I have been wanting to post, I have not been able to post, even though I have been working on it most of this week.

This is why the last few days there hasn’t been a post.

The truth?

There has been a topic on my mind this week and I have been writing and rewriting about it.

I’m just a bit skidish on posting it yet.

If it gets to where it is posted…

trust me…

You will know its there.

But until then…

or not…

at least you know what is going on.

A Few thoughts concerning our Small Groups

This morning while working on the Small Group sheet for this week the idea for this post came into my head. This is not a stop all for every reason why our small groups at Farmington Baptist are sermon based. Instead it is a few perks that come as a result of our Sermon Based Small Group Strategy.

Perk 1
The sermon on Sunday, we believe, is one that God wants us to hear and think about. Often we hear a message on Sunday, are impacted by it, but by Tuesday, because we haven’t taken time to review what was said, it’s impact wains.

Since we believe it was the message God had for our church, our small group studies are an extension of that message. We know His message has a better chance of sticking with us and becoming apart of our lives when we take the time to discuss it in a small group setting.

This is similar to how they did it in the New Testament.

Perk 2
Because it is not a “review of the sermon” but additional thoughts and questions about the topic, the group is able to dig a bit deeper into the topic or passage that was covered and hopefully will make personal applications specific to their own lives.

Perk 3
If someone missed the message because they helped out in child care, or could not make it to church, it is a way for them to connect with the message God had for His church on that day. (We also have podcasts for this purpose as well)

Perk 4
When it comes to evangelism (a piece we will add to our small groups next year). Your neighbor that has come to check out your small group, will hear people talk about how the message impacted them, and how the Bible is making a difference in their lives. This often creates an interest in visiting the church to see what is going on there.

So thats that… now I need to get back to working on the Study Guide for this week.

(For more information on how to be a part of our small groups just comment below or email me.)

The Possum Chronicles XXX

Sitting in a meadow, without firefly light for it was March, and too early for them to be out, 4 possums tell stories of valor and confusion.

The first story was Grissum’s

It was the beginning of spring time, flowers were budding, pollen was nating, and birds were singing. When Abel the Ant emerged from the hive.

With his sensors in high gear he began to look for the first scraps of food that he would collect.  All day he searched and searched then…

Barney the dog Barked at the road.

“Hummm” – Knowsum

“Yesss”, with a smile – Newsum

Jensum just smiled and shook his head with a deep thought look.

Then Knowsum started his story.

Once upon a time there were two birds that needed a bath but had no where to take one.

Day an night they flew in search of a place that had just a little water so they could bathe their wings.

Then, as if they were being rewarded for their diligence in their search, the oak tree sprouted its first leaf of the season.

Grissum – “WOW… thats good!”

Newsum – “Deep… thats deep… ummp”

Jensum just smiled and shook his head with a look of being deep in thought.

Then Newsum told his story

It was a gathering in the clouds. Rain drops were dancing in expectation of their great fall to the earth.  The wind began to blow, moving the clouds toward their destination.   As they moved, more and more clouds joined the movement, growing darker with each addition…

then there was thunder and baby possums were born.

Grissum – “Touching”

Knowsum – “You got me right here” as he pointed to his heart.

Jensum just smiled and shook his head with a look of being deep in thought.

Then Jensum after a long palse and with everyone looking at him, feeling the presure but not really understanding what was going on said

Roses are Red

Violets are Blue

Spring is here

and there’s no reason to fear.

Jensum just smiled and shook his head with a look of being deep in thought

But Grissum, Knowsum and Newsum just looked at him with a look of “I can’t believe you said that”

“Walk with us” Grissum said as He and Newsum grabbed Jensum’s tail and pulled him to the other side of the feild.

“What were you thinking saying something like that?”  – Grissum

“What? What was wrong with what I said?”

“You don’t know?” – Newsum

“”What?  I don’t understand… it was a good little poem.”

“Unbelievable…. you told a story and don’t even know what it meant.” – Grissum

“What? What did it mean?” – Jensum

“You basicly told Knowsum that you would bring flowers to his funeral after he gets run over by a car tonight.” Newsum

“Oh Possum!  I’ve….I’ve got to go back over there and make this right… what should I say to tell him I’m an idoit?”

“Don’t worry about it we will go back and straighten it out for you” – Grissum

“Thanks guys… Thanks…. I owe you!” – Jensum

and with that Grissum and Newsum went back to where Knowsum was…

sporting grins on their faces.

The shots are still smokin

If you are married, have been, or ever had any type of relationship where there was a “intense time of negotiations” this song by tobbymac addresses those unfortunate situations where we fire off at each other in the heat of the moment and then regret it to the point we want to make things right.

As he says “Ya gotta start somewhere”… so go find the place you can start from to work it all out.

In the end you will be glad you did.

The Possum Chronicles – Appendix F

Just a warning…

or maybe an announcement

You haven’t seen the Possum’s in a while on the blog.

Except for Christmas and Thanksgiving

and I tried to re-post some last year but only posted through number III.

But other than that they haven’t really been a part of the blog environment for a while.

I have escaped the straight Jacket as a result of this move.

However, I am working on one today.

One you may understand…

or you may not.

But it has been a lot of fun to write.

When you read it you need to think

Oceans 12

And if you do not know what that is…

thats OK… you might be able to catch on anyway.

So until The Possum Chronicle’s XX hits cyberspace…
