Can God Depend on You?

“On that day King Ahasuerus gave to Queen Esther the house of Haman, the enemy of the Jews. And Mordecai came before the king, for Esther had told what he was to her. And the king took off his signet ring, which he had taken from Haman, and gave it to Mordecai. And Esther set Mordecai over the house of Haman.” (Esther 8:1, 2 ESV)

A man named Mordecai, who few people knew, became second in command over King Ahasuerus’ kingdom.

Mordecai was a foreigner, part of a people group, a nation if you will, that was conquered by the very nation he now had power over, second only to the King. Truly, if his story started here, we would say…

Wow! some people are just in the right place at the right time.

But the truth is, for Mordecai being chosen for this position was not his life goal…

or dream.

Instead, he was brought to this place and time by God…

His God

Our God

The one he had chosen (long before this moment) to serve each day.

Long before he chose to take Esther in and treat her as his own daughter he made another choice.

One that would positively impact his life and the lives of those around him

A choice that had impact on people he did not even know.

His choice was to wake up each day and look for the purpose God had for him on that day (no matter how big or how small)and then do it.

And he was faithful…

Faithful to do the big things and the small things

Faithful to handle crisis and celebrate victories

Faithful when there was great risk in doing so.

Faithful morally, when there was pressure to do other wise.

Because for Mordecai…. accomplishing God’s purpose was an everyday responsibility.

He lived his life with the motto…

I am alive today for such a time as this.

And so, with a life lived in faithfulness to his God he was lead to this point in his life, because to God Mordecai was a faithful servant.

To God Mordecai was faithful in the little things so He knew he would be faithful with the Big task He had for him to do now…

The task of providing protection for the Jewish race

Of course if Mordecai had chosen not to do the task… God would have delevered His people in another way…

But Mordecai…

And the way he lived his life

Wouldn’t allow that.

For he was all about accomplishing God’s purpose for him for that day, leaving tomorrow in the hands of God

So, through the course of events that God had placed in Mordecai’s life, and his faithfulness to accomplish those task, God lead him to this moment in time…

this place…

to receive from a king (that did not believe the way the jews believed) the power and authority to save the Jewish race from destruction.

Wow.

What if that thing that God has placed before you to do today…

that “little” decision not to sin, or not to participate

that “little” action of helping someone, of showing love for someone’s misfortune, or showing concern for some sort of danger that was coming someone’s way…

were just steps…

test if you will…

to see if you have the faithfulness that is needed…

to accomplish the bigger tasks God wants to see done in this world.

Would He be able to trust you?

Would you be the one He would choose based on your record?
