My Last Day

485896-1

What if this was my last day to live?

My last sun set

My last supper

My last tucking the kids into bed

What if this was my last day to live?

Would it make the day more valuable?

Would life become more precious?

Would I live this day differently…

different in a moral way

different in a thanksgiving way

different in preparations?

What if these were my final hours?

If this was it for me

We are not promised we will have a tomorrow by God but we are assured that the day we are in is one He has made for us to live in.

It’s special not because it could be our last…

but because we have been entrusted with it

By God

What if everyday was seen as a Gift?

A Gift from God.

Would it make the day more valuable?

Would life become more precious?

Would I live this day differently…

different in a moral way

different in a thanksgiving way

different in preparations?

I should…

even more so than if it were my last.

What Are They Thinking? Friday

Yes… it’s the third ”What are They Thinking? Friday” (how long this will continue will depend on my wife’s judgement each week). So here are a few pictures I ran across this week and because “I always know what people are thinking” I have included captions at the bottom of these pictures that describes what they are thinking so you will know….

“what they are thinking.”

This week is different in that my kids are helping me with the captions…

Don’t Run Away!

runningaway

Don’t run away

Jesus didn’t

He headed straight toward His path of pain and suffering because it was God’s will for him to take that terrible path.

What if that hurtful moment… that moment where you felt attacked was the road God wanted you on but you ran away… as fast as you could go?

What if in running, you were in reality running away from the path God had laid before you but you missed it because it was a painful path… and you allowed the pain to speak for God and the pain told you to have nothing to do with it.

Does God only give His servants good paths to walk on?

Then why did He give Jesus the path to the cross?

What if Jesus had ran away from God’s path for Him?

There would have been no resurrection… no saving of the world.

What if the thing standing in-between you and a resurrection experience is the painful path you keep running from?

What if the life you desire but never have… is that way because you keep running from the terrible path God has placed in your life to get you there?

Maybe it’s time to quit running from God’s will for your life…

even though the path He has placed in front of you is a painful one.

5 Plot Elements I Think the Noah Movie Will Contain

4288310_orig

Warning….

this blog is based on some assumptions from watching the Noah Movie Trailer.  They could be right and they could be wrong, but I wanted to write about them, just to see if I’m right and because it’s fun…

at least for me.

So don’t take anything as “gospel” from this post… unless of course my predictions come true…

we will see.

Prediction 1 – Someone will either hack their way into the Ark or sneak in without Noah knowing it. The character I choose for this is the one that seems to be getting an army together to fight Noah.  If he is the one that hacks his way in then the plot will be about Him trying to kill Noah so he can take over the ship.  You always have to have a fight like this in a “good movie” right?

Prediction 2 – I think some form of evolution will appear in the film.  Not sure how, maybe a retelling of Genesis 1-3? This will set up my 3rd prediction…

Prediction 3 – The big sin in the film will be the carelessness of the human species in their lack of care for the environment.  It will be the environment that will respond in retaliation to that “grave sin” by attempting to wipeout all the humans with the flood.  Nature will want to start the evolutionary process over… after all the humans are the ones who didn’t evolve correctly a “fact” which is seen in their carelessness with the environment. Noah will struggle with this concept.

Prediction 4 – Fallen Angels will be in the film at some level. I think in the trailer when he says “I’m not alone” he is referring to them not to God.  They will either help him build the ark or help him fight the massive army that attacks them.  Or both.

Prediction 5 – To many “species” of animals will attempt to get on the ark.  Adding to the overall mythical feel of the cinematic portrayal .

By the way these predictions are not based on the Bible’s account. You should read that in Genesis.

So there you go… predictions from the Noah trailer.  Not fact, just assumptions. You know….

“In the spirit of what Hollywood does to Biblical stories” sense.

I may never know if they are right.

Forgiveness

forgive1

I think sometimes forgiveness is hard.

In fact it is easier to want it than give it.

Forgiveness doesn’t mean a blank slate and its not forgetting. Things that happen are there, they are done… part of the past. God doesn’t forget those things and neither do we.

Forgiveness is not forgetting, but it is about not holding something against someone.

In fact it is easier to hold a grudge than it is to forgive.

Forgiveness is not avoiding conversations about what has happened and it’s results. Forgiveness opens the door to handle the wrong that has occurred. It allows us to deal with things without hurting each other… again. It allows conviction to take hold and opens the door for heart change.

Forgiveness is not the same thing as trust. Trust takes time to rebuild. Forgiveness sets up boundaries that enable that to happen.

I have never de-friended anyone on Facebook… never. But sometimes people get upset when it comes to the Bible and its instructions on how to live. Forgiveness is saying I am still your friend, can’t support what you are doing but still friends.

Forgiveness prevents us from looking down on the person that isn’t living right. Forgiveness is a reminder that you an I do not live right all the time. We need forgiveness just as much as the next person.

It is easier to de-freind someone than it is to deal with the issue.

Forgiveness opens the door to freedom… the freedom that happens when some one says “I was wrong”… this is a freedom that is seldom experienced but is always available.

There are some that will never deal with the issues they have created in their lives. I’ve been a pastor long enough to know that. If someone will not change… forgiveness sets up boundaries until they do. People that refuse to repent are dangerous to be around. Forgiveness is not the absence of protection. You do not have to be buddy buddy with the people you have forgiven. Forgiveness is remembering what has happened without holding it against the person. It allows us to use wisdom concerning how we will approach them in the future. There are some people that are poison… forgiveness responds to that.

Jesus opened the door of forgiveness to everyone, but not everyone took Him up on His offer. Some even fought Him after His resurrection. The comments above are rooted in the life He lived for us. The resurrection was proceeded by people who were friends with Him at the beginning of the week and three days later de-freinded Him and put Him on the cross. Even with that He forgave them, though He did not condone what they were doing, and He left the door of forgiveness open to them so they would have a way to make things right… to say they were wrong…

He does the same for us… because He loves us.

He loves us.

After all…

Forgiveness is rooted in love… and love never fails.
